opioid forum


Upcoming  Community Forum on Opioids
The evening will include a variety of speakers presenting various perspectives on today's opioid problems. This event is free and open to the public. We encourage parents, children in 6th grade and beyond, and anyone who is in regular  contact with youth to attend. Please join us May 28th beginning at 7 p.m. at Sewickley Academy's Rea Auditorium. Prevention Point Pittsburgh will be supplying a resource table. There will also be a live stream available at

Please come to a FREE SCREENING of Eighth Grade....
an award winning, provocative and uplifting movie.
Sunday March 10th at 12noon at the Tull Family Theater, 418 Walnut St., Sewickley, PA.
This movie includes content that is not appropriate for young audiences.  There are discussions in the movie, including sexual content that represents actual discussions kids are having.  Youth 14 and older are encouraged to attend with a parent.

Spotlight on Opioids - 7:00pm, April 10th 2018 at Quaker Valley Middle School Auditorium


Please join us for a panel discussion on the opioid crisis on Tuesday, April 10th, 7-8:30pm at the Quaker Valley Middle School Auditorium, 618 Harbaugh St., Sewickley, PA 15143. The event will include experts from the Department of Justice, 6 Steps to Sanity, Allegheny Health Network, and Sewickley PoliceThe event will consist of four short presentations, followed by a brief panel discussion. There will also be a working display “Hidden in Plain Sight” (See prior blog post below).

This event is open to the public. 

Babysitting for parents of younger children will be provided if arrangements made via RSVP to youthconnect@hotmail.com.

The event is being sponsored jointly by two Sewickley groups, Youth Connect and SHAPE. 

Youth Connect wishes to sincerely thank our expert speakers, and Quaker Valley School District for assistance and for allowing us to use the Middle School Auditorium.

Hidden In Plain Sight coming to Explore Sewickley, Sept 9, 2017

Hidden in Plain Sight

…a drug awareness program for parents
 and other adults.
Sat., Sept 9 from 10am–5pm at Explore Sewickley 418 Beaver Street, Sewickley PA 


Walk through a mock teen’s room with items that may indicate substance abuseTest your skills in identifying drug paraphernalia, signs of drug or alcohol abuse, and stealth hiding places. 
This program is brought to you with help from Sewickley Borough Police Department, Explore Sewickley, and some local citizens hoping to help stem the tide of substance abuse in our area.

Sewickley Academy Presents Conversations that Connect: Understanding and Supporting the Introverted Child



American culture tends to celebrate being outgoing and highly social. Introverts can be made to feel unappreciated and overlooked, even though their quiet, contemplative style brings extraordinary talents and insights. Learn more about introverts--including insights from several SA students.
Join Sewickley Academy’s Director of Support Services Dr. Shannon Mulholland as she shares her expertise and guidance about how parents can understand and support an introverted child.
